As noted in the Schedule of Classes for each term, the following policy
is strictly enforced for all lab students:
FIRST LAB MEETING: If students are not present promptly at the beginning
of their first lab period, their places will be given to students on the
waiting list. If you cannot attend the first scheduled lab period, you
must notify the Chemistry Department Lab Coordinator, Dr. Elisa Cooper
at ecooper@pdx.edu or 503-725-8987 in advance to reserve your space.
EYE PROTECTION: Approved eye protection (ANSI Z87.1 Splash Goggles) must
be worn at all times in chemistry laboratories. There are NO exceptions
to this requirement, and failure to comply with this requirement will
result in the student being dropped from the laboratory.
CHECKOUT: Once a student has checked into a lab locker, the student must
formally check out of that locker even if the student has not used any
of the equipment. Failure to check out by the posted check-out date
(5:00 PM on the Friday preceding finals week) will result in an
automatic $50.00 fee assessment. If keys are not returned, an automatic
$100.00 fee will be assessed.
LAB BREAKAGE/DEDUCTIBLE POLICY: In the event that items are
missing/broken, students will be responsible for replacing each item. If
missing/broken item is under the cost of the deductible, students will
pay the true cost of the item. If the item is over the deductible, the
maximum amount charged per item is equal to the deductible. Payment is
due directly to the Stockroom prior to check-out.
Questions regarding lab policies should be directed to the Lab
Coordinator (Dr. Elisa Cooper at ecooper@pdx.edu or 503-725-8987), the
Teaching Assistant assigned to the lab (posted outside the main
Chemistry Office, SB2-262), or to the Chemistry Stockroom (SB2-270 or
503-725-4273).
