Instructors:
Scott Reed (sreed at pdx dot edu), SB1 309A (Office hours: MWF 10:15-11:15)

1. Experiments will begin on the first day of lab. Students should be prepared with the following:
a) PSU Lab Manual for CH 327. (Purchase at Smart Copy, 1915 SW 6th Ave.)
b) "Organic Laboratory Techniques" by Fessenden, Fessenden & Feist, 3rd Ed. (Purchase at bookstore).
c) Approved safety goggles (These are available at the bookstore. Also, the chemistry stockroom (SB2, 270) sells a package that includes goggles, anti-fog tissue, and 2 pairs of rubber gloves all at a cost that is less than the retail price of goggles alone.)
d) Lab notebook (bound, see lab manual for requirements, purchase at the bookstore).
e) Proper attire. For safety reasons, the department
requires that garments worn in the laboratories (shorts, dresses, cut-offs,
etc.) be at least knee-length.
In addition, sandals and shoes with open toes are not permitted.
If you aren’t properly dressed for the first lab period, you may check
in and listen to the lab lead-off, but you will not be able to work.
There should
be adequate time to do the experiment next week.
2. The schedule of experiments is in the Lab Manual.
3. Students on a wait list are not automatically registered if space becomes available. They need to be present at check-in for the first lab, and will receive priority for enrolling if space is available.
4. Students who are registered but don’t show up at the beginning of the first lab period will lose their places to any students who are present and want to enroll in the lab. If you aren’t able to show up for the first lab but wish to maintain your place, contact your instructor in advance to reserve your space.
5. Students not on a wait list who wish to enroll in a ‘closed’ section should appear at the beginning of the lab. Registered no-shows are relatively common, and you will be enrolled if space is not claimed.
